Former Mayor, Cllr Nick Houghton chose Guide Dogs as his Mayoral Charity for 2022/23 with the aim of raising £10,000 to name and train a Guide Dog Puppy. With the target safely achieved, a vote was taken to select a favourite name out of six: Bertie, Willow, Nessa, Smidge, Elgar and Molly (shortlist of names put together by a wonderful group of volunteers from the Malvern and Ledbury Branch of Guide Dogs.
Nessa was a clear favourite and Elgar the runner up. Fortunately, Nick’s fundraising was so successful in 2022/23 that he nearly reached £12,500; an extra £2,500 would mean that a second puppy could be named. With Nick now on a mission to raise a few more pounds (£227 to be exact!) to get to £12,500 in total, please look out for details of an upcoming quiz night, to be held in Worcester.
