Malvern Town Council are thrilled to announce that the refurbishment and extension of Victoria Park Playground will start from 19 May and run for approximately 6 weeks.
The Victoria Park playground refurbishment will see the removal of the current 20-year-old climbing frame and equipment to be replaces with a wide variety of play apparatus with over 30 new pieces of equipment including a bespoke large uniplay with slide, an inclusive seesaw, titan, whizzer, big trampoline, play panels and sensory tokens. The play area is also being extended to include balance beams, ninja step, monkey bars, rope swing and rope balance as part of a trim trail. Alongside the new equipment seating will be added to playground with new picnic benches.
The toddler play area, swings, basketball courts, green space/football pitches along with Bilberry Café will all remain open and unaffected for the duration of the 6 weeks of works.
Cllr Anne Cherry, Malvern Link Town Councillor says “Over the past couple of years, Malvern Town Council’s operations team has been working hard to ensure that Victoria Park facilities are kept up-to-date and in good condition and we have seen the arrival of new gym equipment, tennis nets, and benches, along with the new skatepark coming in late 2026. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to now upgrade and extend this popular playground thanks to a grant from Malvern Hills District Council. Due to funding conditions, these works need to start as soon as possible but will only take 6 weeks to complete, allowing the playground to be operational in time for the 6-week summer holidays. I appreciate that people that use the playground regularly will be disappointed, and I apologise for the inconvenience the closure brings, but we look forward to welcoming park users back to the playground with a much-needed refresh, upgrade and extension from early July.”
Cllr David Watkins, Malvern Link Town Councillor says, “Having been a Link Councillor for many years, I have seen over the years how the development and improvement of Victoria Park has positively impacted Malvern residents. The new playground will breathe new life into the park but is also necessary in ensuring the safety of the public, as the current equipment was installed around 20 years ago. I appreciate that there is never an ideal time for this type of refurbishment, but we are hoping this new and extended playground will allow inclusive playtimes for all our park visitors while providing a benefit to the Malvern and Malvern Link residents further”
Cllr Helen Clements, Malvern Link Town Councillor says “I am very excited about the new project for the Victoria Playground, after speaking with local parents that use the park, they are thrilled to see the improved facilities and inclusive design. Whilst it isn’t ideal that playground needs to be closed for 6 weeks, we are glad that the toddler area, basketball courts, swings, and open space will all remain open during the works. I am pleased to see that Bilberry café will also be unaffected by the works so please do support this wonderful local business during this time.”
